I went into the film wondering what the main story was, I wanted to show that in the poster. By the end it was obvious; trust. MacReady never trusts anyone the whole film. I have a background in traditional printmaking and this poster reminds me of that look. In particular wood cuts, where you have to carve out the whites from a solid block, as opposed to drawing on paper, where you start with white paper and add the dark pencil. The sandworms in the corner against black is where I can feel it most. Originally there was a fully drawn tree there, but the composition felt off and I removed it in favor of big Sandworms.

Hitchcock's The Birds is slow, the fake birds look comically odd slamming around the main characters. But dammit if I wasn't pulled in again when I watched this film. My son is very afraid of birds, it's a common phobia. So I channeled his fear and saw the swarm of birds circling the Theater capturing the building tension and a single bird top of the sign with its dead eye staring. The film was presented at the Texas Theatre with a performance by the Dallas Neo-Classical Ballet. The troop had performed it at a college and some footage had made it onto social media. I captured some stills from that and placed them in the corner.
